Dyfed Shire Horse Farm

Everybody loves a Shire foal

Everybody loves babies. Me? Not so much

It’s been a while since I last updated, but as you may have heard we have a new addition in the form of a Shire foal. So with all the excitement, plus we had half term and I was super busy everyday pulling our visitors in the cart, I just haven’t had time! But, now it’s a little quieter, with the human children going back to school and I can put my hooves up and relax by telling you all about my new little brother.

As, you may have read in one of my previous posts I knew the baby was coming. I even learned a little about the birth and what to expect, I tried to help Beauty by giving her my advice (which she very rudely ignored!) And with all the build up, with the baby being 3 weeks late, I was so excited. Then it happened…

Going into labour

It was 6.05AM on Monday 21st May and Beauty was imminent to give birth, she was definitely in labour! So, I did what any sensible horse would do. I ran up and down the fence, threw myself into anything that got in my way including Santes, who was also super excited. Up and down we ran, trying to find a way into the field where Beauty was giving birth. After 5-10 minutes or so, the MWPB (Man who pays the bills) came and got me and Santes and took us into the stables and gave us a bucket of food each. So, in regards to what happened next in the delivery of the foal? I have no idea what happened. I missed the whole thing. They tricked me into being distracted while all the magic was going on in the field! Not much later Beauty gave birth to a very healthy and very beautiful little Colt, my new little brother. Who I still have not been allowed to meet! The MWPB says I get far too excited and I’m far too big to play with such a young baby. Even though I really want to show him all my cool fighting moves that Alfie and I have been perfecting! Rearing and biting, it’s all so much fun and I can’t wait to show him. But, I guess if he’s too little, and I suppose Beauty doesn’t want him getting hurt. We will just have to wait until he’s as big as me!

Missing out

The biggest problem now, is that I am not getting anywhere near how much fuss and attention that I deserve! Everybody, all the visitors, all the stable workers, even the GWFU! They all keep standing just staring at the foal! He doesn’t even come forward for cuddles yet, so he doesn’t appreciate it like I do. Not that I’m jealous or anything, but really? I’m still as cute as him, right?

Lord Edmund

Hi there. I’m Ed, you can call me Eddie if you like. I am only a young horse, (nearly 5) But I have already seen and learnt lots of things.
